Illkirch is well served by public transport. A cycle path runs alongside the Rhone-Rhine canal, providing a safe link to Strasbourg. There's plenty of shopping in the town center. For leisure activities, there's a free gravel pit for swimming. There's entertainment all year round, including the Printemps des Bretelles festival (popular with accordion fans) and a Christmas market. The mark of history is still present, with the winstub La Tankstell, named after the petrol pumps that were installed along the sidewalk before the Second World War.
