Situated on a Piedmontese hill, the village of Itterswiller (from the Latin Itineris villa) lies at the crossroads of an ancient Roman road. It was first mentioned in the 12th century under the lords of Andlau. Vineyard pergolas weave through the main street, lined with half-timbered houses. Richly flowered in fine weather, it nestles in the heart of a prestigious vineyard. Itterswiller is also distinguished by the square bell tower of its church (whose lower parts are Romanesque) and its rhomboidal spire. Itterswiller is an essential wine and gastronomy stop-off on the Wine Route.
