Historically (circa 1800), most of Lipsheim's inhabitants were weavers: each house had a spinning wheel, and the women made their own linen. In fact, the whole village was surrounded by a continuous ditch, which extended between the main streets, allowing the hemp to be washed before weaving. Today, the village has retained its charm and gentle way of life, with its typical Alsatian houses, decorated according to the season, and its narrow streets. Take a stroll through a typical Alsatian village, before dining in one of the two traditional restaurants.
