A small industrial town on the banks of the Seine, in the south of the French Vexin region, the name Limay comes from the Latin mansio (house). In the 11th century, the town was a seigneury, then became the territory chosen by Charles V to found the Célestins monastery in 1376. In the meantime, in the 13th century, the town was linked to Mantes by a 37-arch bridge, which allowed passage on the main road from Paris to Rouen. This monument was later rebuilt in stone in 1613. Limay became famous for its wine, while its landscapes inspired artists such as Jean-Baptiste Corot and Jean Eve.
