Established as a parish in 698 under the patronage of Saint Sulpice and Saint Antoine, the commune was successively owned by the Frankish kings, the abbey of Saint-Denis, the kings of France (12th century), the counts of Montfort (13th century), the lords of Essarts (15th century), and finally the lords of Rambouillet until the French Revolution. Formerly called Brogarias or Bruières, it wasn't until the 17th century that the current name, derived from "bruyères", was established. On its territory, you'll discover the Etangs de Hollande, built under Louis XIV to serve as a water reserve for the Château de Versailles, and the beauty of its sandy terrain.
