Close to Orgeval, Ecquevilly, with a population of over 4,200, is a former rural village that underwent a major urbanization process from the 1960s onwards - notably with the establishment of a Renault factory in the neighboring commune of Flins-sur-Seine. Numerous artefacts dating from prehistory, the Gallo-Roman era and the Merovingian period have been found in its soil. From the 11th century, when the earliest documents relating to the châtellenie de Fresnes were written, until the French Revolution in 1789, four families succeeded one another at the head of this fiefdom: the de Neauphle-le-Château family, the de Poissy family, the d'O family and the Hennequin family.
