Inhabited since Gallo-Roman times, Bouafle takes its name from the Latin boscus (wood) and the Old Germanic alfa (domain). In the 10th century, it belonged to the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, then to the monks of Jumièges, who built a priory there. Devastated by the commendataires in the 18th century, the village became the property of the Ursulines of Saint-Cyr in 1693. Once a farming community, it was renowned for its vineyards. Today, Bouafle has just over 2,000 inhabitants and has retained its rural atmosphere.
