The small village of Civry-la-Forêt lies on the Mantois plateau. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, remains of a foundry have been found here. A quarter of its 1,000-hectare territory is occupied by the Civry forest. This forest gave its name to the ancient seigneury of Forest, which once belonged to the lord of Richebourg, before being purchased in the 18th century by Louis-Charles de Bourbon, count of Eu. The village's name derives from the Gallo-Roman Severius and the suffix acum, meaning "the land of Severus". The church of Saint-Barthélemy, located 1 km outside the village, was destroyed during the Hundred Years' War.
