Formerly known as Boullon, the village took its present name in 1621 when Claude de Bullion, then superintendent of finance for Louis XIII, decided to use his family name for his new seigneury. Bullion's territory is watered by two rivers: the Aulne, a tributary of the Rémarde, and the Petite rivière Sainte-Anne. It comprises twelve hamlets: Moutiers, Longchêne (home to Russian writer Nina Berberova from 1938 to 1948), les Carneaux, Ronqueux, la Claye, la Boulaye, la Grouaille, le Moulin de Béchereau, le Gué d'Aulne, la Galetterie, la Picardie and Aumont. The commune also boasts four washhouses and five mills.
