Situated between the Rambouillet and Dourdan forest massifs, Bonnelles was crossed by the Roman road linking Paris and Chartres. Attached to the priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs in 1096, then made a parish in the 12th century, the commune's landscape changed with the arrival of 13th-century secular lords - including La Villeneuve, who is credited with building the first château. At the beginning of the 20th century, the town was made famous by the Duchesse d'Uzès, whose hunting rally made the château famous. Today, the town offers a beautiful panorama of meadows and woods with exceptional flora and fauna.
