A menhir in the Bois de Sainte-Assise and the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa are just some of the known remnants of Cesson's past. Settlements grew up near the ru de Balory, at the end of the rue de la Fontaine, around a spring that is now tapped, in the area where the 13th-century church of Saint-Martin, destroyed in 1836, was built. The commune is well worth a visit, with its old wash-houses, 19th-century coaching inn and Château de Saint-Leu, as well as the Etang du Folet, now a bird sanctuary. The tour continues to Pouilly-le-Fort, home to a 14th-century château, and Vert-Saint-Denis.
