Pringy has been occupied since prehistoric times, with its territory yielding axes, polished stones and arrowheads. But it was legend that probably contributed to the town's development. It is said that, in the 13th century, a Black Madonna was discovered in the hollow of an oak tree, after which a chapel was built and a pilgrimage organized to celebrate the miracle, or perhaps the statue was a representation of an ancient mother goddess renamed at the dawn of Christianity..
