Before being included in the overall plan to balance the urbanization of the Paris region, the town of Évry was a market town. Mme de Montespan owned a château here, which she had built on the estate given to her by Louis XIV. The creation of the new town was decided in 1965 to "relieve the congestion of Paris". The idea was to create a place where people could live, work and enjoy public services. Over the decades, many great names in architecture have tried their hand at this. The latest example is the Cathedral of the Resurrection, designed by architect Mario Botta and inaugurated in 1995. In 2000, a decree declared the end of development operations.
