The town lies at the heart of the Bièvre valley, hence the name... This river, which flows all the way to Paris, marks the landscape by cutting deeply into the plateau. Bièvres appears at the heart of a deep, rural valley. The town is home to the former Val Profond abbey, dating back to the 12th century. The Rochedieu estate was once Louis XIV's hunting lodge. The château evokes the memory of the major personalities who stayed there: Victor Hugo, Chateaubriand, Liszt, Berlioz and the painter Ingres. Located just fifteen kilometers from the capital, Bièvres has all the characteristics of a small provincial town.
