The coast of Montaigu is well known to all the Jura motorists… and cyclists who dare to try their ascent! This uphill slope leads to a former strategic point chosen in 1640 by Captain Lacuzon who fought for the independence of Franche-Comté. He settled in the castle of Montaigu and led by some incursions into Bresse against the French army. Mullet de Lisle, another local celebrity, grew up in Montaigu. You can still see her family home. The author of the Marseillaise remained very attached to this high-perched village, appreciated today for its viewpoints with breathtaking views over Dáil and the Revermont.
