This commune is the2nd largest in Corsica. It boasts a seafront with sixteen kilometers of coastline, including the unique Argentella pebble beach. The village takes its name from the old silver and copper mines located nearby, which were in operation from 1873 to 1930. The village is under the protection of Saint Restitute, who, according to legend, chose the site of the chapel that bears her name. It was built in the 12th century on the site where the saint and her companions were buried after their martyrdom. Her cult is celebrated on May 21, and her relics are carried in procession through the village.
