Aregno is a traditional hillside village. There are traces of ancient occupation: on the San-Marcello site, there are a few Roman remains, such as bronze plates belonging to the armies of Vespasian. According to the work of Savelli de Guido, the site may be that of the ancient city of Balania. The parish church of Saint-Antoine boasts a handsome three-storey bell tower, and several small ancient chapels are scattered throughout the village and surrounding area. The Aregno plage station is an important summer stop for the beach tramway, which runs along the coast to Calvi and Île-Rousse.
