Santo-Pietro di Tenda is one of Corsica's largest communes, located at the foot of Mount Tenda in the Upper Nebbiu region. It stretches across the Agriate region to the western edge of the Ostriconi. Its territory of over 20,000 ha stretches right down to the sea. Santo-Pietro's coastline boasts some of the island's finest beaches, with fine sand and turquoise waters. In fact, the island's jagged desert coastline gives way in places to the beaches of Lodu, Saleccia and Malfacu, making it an exceptional site. It was on Saleccia beach that Darryl Zanuck filmed The Longest Day in 1962. Access to Saleccia beach is limited to trails and enduros via a dirt and sand track! Otherwise, it's mountain biking or 4x4. While there are many hiking trails to explore and admire the landscapes of this Nebbiu region, the remains of the past are just as interesting to discover. Remains of prehistoric settlements, megaliths dating back to the end of the5th millennium BC, can be found in the hamlet of Casta on Monte Revincu. These include dolmens and statue-menhirs. Other buildings, closer to our time, deserve our attention, notably the church of Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste, listed as a Monument Historique. Together with its bell tower and the Sainte-Croix oratory, it forms a jewel of Baroque art dating from the 16th century. The village is home to the Saint-Joseph convent. Romanesque in style, it dates back to the 13th century and for many years was home to Capuchin monks.
