With its multitude of roofs made of blonde stone, a local material known as lauze, the village of Saint-Geniès offers visitors a truly unique ensemble, giving the impression that time has stood still. This is the heart of the area where the heavy limestone slabs used for roof tiles are extracted. Cosy houses dating back to the Middle Ages, a Romanesque church backing onto a castle, the remains of the first castle and the Cheylard chapel, with its 14th-century frescoes, are just some of the magnificent sights not to be missed in this beautiful village. A market is held here on Sunday mornings, and in summer on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 11pm.
