For seven centuries (from 770 to 1525), Eschau was a community of Benedictine nuns founded by Remigius, Bishop of Strasbourg. Throughout the Middle Ages, Eschau Abbey, located on the Roman Road, was the site of a pilgrimage dedicated to Saint Sophie and her daughters: their relics are still preserved in the Saint-Trophime abbey church. In 1143, this 12th-century fervor led to the foundation of a hospital for pilgrims, who were treated with plants from the monastic garden. Eschau has been awarded the "three flowers" label for its many flowers. Thanks to the Pierre-Pflimlin bridge, you can reach Germany quickly.
