35 km west of Tours, Rivarennes is located at the very beginning of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Natural Park. This town of a thousand inhabitants owes its fame to its culinary speciality: the poire tapée. This is one of the oldest methods of preserving fruit. The technique, which is particularly tedious, consists of dehydrating the peeled pears in an old-fashioned oven or in a dryer for 150 hours! They are then flattened to remove the remaining air.
