The name of this picturesque village in the forest environment speaks for itself. It is however recent. In the 12th century, it was Saint-Benoist de la Mort, from the name of the lord Gobert de la Mort, owner of the fief, later transformed into Saint-Benoist du Lac-Mort, by confusion with Lac-Mort, a marshy depression located in the forest. During the revolution, the village was renamed Benoît-les-Bois. Finally, in 1936, by prefectural decree, it took its current name of Saint-Benoit-la-Forêt. The village is home to the Chinon Hospital, a horse farm, an accrobranche site and an excellent wine shop.
