The base successively inhabited several squadrons, including B 25 Mitchells.

Between the Stuart Highway and Pine Creek recovery, two roadhouses (HAYES CREEK ROADHOUSE Tel (08) 8978 2430 and EMERALD SPRINGS ROADHOUSE Tel (08) 8978 2320). In the first roadhouse, you can see outside the photos of the air base of Mc Donald Airfield during the tour of John Waynes during World War II.
GOAT ISLAND HERITAGE TOUR
Read moreGoat Island, located in Sydney Harbour National Park, is a place steeped in history. Once inhabited by the Cadigal aboriginal peoples, the island was also home to Bennelong and Barangaroo. Since European colonization, Goat Island has played an important role in the development of Sydney's urban landscape. Used as a workplace for prisoners and as a gunpowder storage depot, the island is now home to Queen's Magazine, built by prisoners in the 1830s. Next to it are a barracks, a cooperage and a kitchen. Later, Goat Island was the site of the first river police station and the harbour fire department. The island also served as a shipyard and was used for filming and concerts. Although Goat Island is not open to the general public, it is possible to explore its rich past on a guided tour with the NPWS or one of its partners.
