CAPE BORDA LIGHTSTATION
A listed lighthouse on Kangaroo Island, named after navigator and scientist Jean-Charles de Borda.
Built in 1858 on the steep cliffs of Kangaroo Island's north-western tip, this lighthouse is distinguished by its square structure, unique in South Australia. Designed to guide ships through the perilous waters of Investigator Strait, it bears witness to the maritime ingenuity of the time. Nearby, the Harvey's Return trail offers a 1 km round-trip walk, following the old route used by the watchmen. A walk along the Cliff Top Hike leads to a stone lookout, ideal for whale watching from May to September.
