Prosecco is a municipality on the Carso plateau, 10 km from Trieste, on a ledge facing the Gulf of Trieste. The town is the arrival point of the Strada Napoleonica, an easy 5 km path starting from the obelisk of Opicina, on the heights of Trieste, which offers panoramic views of the sea and the castle of Miramare below. Surrounded by vineyards, Prosecco gave its name to a famous sparkling wine, prosecco, which is produced in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia from the glera grape. Prosecco has become the emblematic wine of theaperitivo, served plain or in cocktails (the famous spritz).
