Approximately 16,000 inhabitants. Izola has long been an island. Now connected to the mainland, it has all the Mediterranean charm expected of it with its pretty, well-preserved squares, Venetian buildings, narrow streets with numerous shops, its still very active fishing and yachting port, and its beautiful seafront promenade. More discreet, less thunderous than most of its neighbours, there is a warm atmosphere and an air of dolce vita here. Clearly turned towards Italy, the maritime city cultivates its cultural and gastronomic difference but does not yet enjoy the same reputation as Piran or Portoroz.
