Nestled in a green valley, the town of Katzenthal is dominated by the Wineck castle, built in the 12th century. Today, it houses a small archaeological museum. Throughout its history, Katzenthal has belonged to the House of Austria, was the stronghold of the Counts of Ribeaupierre and was part of the Hohlandsbourg seigneury. In terms of viticulture, Katzenthal is renowned for its Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg. It's also the starting point for numerous hikes through the famous vineyards. The town's distinctive coat of arms features a golden cross on a blue background with a silver half-moon.
