The foundations of Saint-Dié were laid in 669 by Saint Déodat, bishop of Nevers. At the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century, a remarkable literary, artistic and scientific centre developed, to which the Duke of Lorraine entrusted the travel writings of the Florentine navigator Amerigo Vespucci. The "New World", now called America, appeared as a continent apart. Since 1990, a geography festival has been held in the city. Don't miss the Claude and Duval factory by Le Corbusier, the cathedral rebuilt after the war, the Saint-Martin church, the Pierre-Noël Museum, and the green spaces: the Bishop's Park and the Freedom Tower, the Molières waterfalls.
