The small town, with a population of just 2,000, is dedicated to its great man, Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, one of the fathers of the unification of the Italian nation. The town of Grinzane was renamed in his honour in 1916. Born into a family well established in the region, he was in fact the mayor of the town at the age of just 22, and remained so from 1832 to 1848. His castle rises majestically in height and dominates all the surroundings. It is a high quality wine stop, because within the castle, which is a must to visit, you will find not only a fascinating ethnographic museum, but also a regional wine library of the highest level.
