Near Turin, Carmagnola is a beautiful brick-colored town of about 30,000 inhabitants. Is it related to our famous revolutionary song Dansons la carmagnole? Opinions are divided, but it seems that the tune on which our warlike words ("vive le son du canon...") resounded in the past originated from this beautiful and peaceful town... Carmagnola has many churches to visit and the remains of an old medieval castle, and above all the beautiful complex of the Cistercian abbey of Santa Maria di Casanova, founded around 1150, which is one of the first examples of the Gothic style in Piedmont.
