Malcesine, a characteristic village on the lake, still preserves its medieval layout. Inhabited since ancient times, the village was fortified during the communal period and became one of the military strongholds of the Lords of Verona, the Scaligeri (13th and 14th centuries). The imposing fortress overlooking the lake is the most telling evidence of this. Malcesine will seduce sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts in summer and skiers in winter. The town is also the starting point for discovering the natural landscapes of Mount Baldo (2,200 m), often referred to as "the botanical garden of Europe". It can be reached by funicular - which in winter leads to the 11 km long ski area.
