Its commercial importance dates back to the 19th century, when it was located on the "King's Road". Its center is bisected by the Tandwa River. An important Saturday market is still held in the upper part of the town. The town is served by minibuses from Mékélé and by private vehicles, especially on market days. Adwa is also easy to reach, as the road is good.
