In the center of the Lagarina Valley, the village is surrounded by a gentle landscape dominated by the green geometry of the vineyards. Its urban center began to develop in the 12th century, under the Castelbarco family. The Castelbarcos built a system of fortifications, part of which can still be seen in Via della Fosse. The city came under Venetian rule from 1416 to 1509. The main part of the urban infrastructure dates from this period. Rovereto is famous for its silk industry, which was introduced to the area in 1520. The castle, an imposing fortification built in the 14th century, overlooks the old town. Magnificent palaces remind us of this flourishing period, especially around the medieval Via della Terra. The Mart, a museum of contemporary art, is another major attraction. The historic center of Rovereto is a delight for lovers of old stones. The route from the central Piazza Rosmini to the castle allows you to see many beautiful medieval buildings. Known as the Athens of Trentino for its strong cultural vocation, Rovereto is a city rich in art events and festivities throughout the year.
