In 1786, while passing through Limone, Goethe was astonished by these lemon-rich terraced greenhouses. Today's visitor arriving here will be charmed by the olive trees and the old greenhouses. The name of this village, wedged between the lake and the cliff, is often associated with lemon trees(limoni), but in reality it derives from the Latin limen (border) and has nothing to do with citrus fruit. Limone has the charm of an ancient village, with buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries alternating with fishermen's houses. An interesting stop before reaching Riva del Garda and the Trentino, especially with the arrival of the bicycle path.
