Pravia was the second capital of the kingdom of Asturias and court of King Don Silo. A certain grandeur remains visible in the palaces, such as that of Montas, as well as the collegiate church of Santa Maria and the church of Sautraves (774-783), which already heralds the pre-Romanesque. Pravia can be reached from Oviedo via the A-63 and from Cangas del Narcea via the AS-15. There are train connections from Oviedo and bus connections from Cangas del Narcea with the Alsa company. There is a tourist office on Calle Primo de Rivera, 2, and 10 km away, San Juan de la Arena, a pretty hamlet that makes its living fishing elvers.
