This provincial capital boasts one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Spain. This important crossroads on the road to Santiago de Compostela took off in the 10th century. When Ordoño II, king of Asturias, decided to transfer the capital of the Christian kingdom there. But it was the 16th century that saw its golden century with the construction of the convent of San Marcos. Its role fades with the annexation to the unified kingdom of Castile and Leon. The city has beautiful remains of its glorious past: a large, well-preserved medieval town partly surrounded by walls, a reminder of the Roman camp Legio VII, which gave its name to the city. The cathedral, the Real Colegiata de San Isidro and its royal pantheon, the Casa Botines are of course must-sees. It is easy to visit on foot. The Musac is a little more out of the way. The less courageous will take the bus lines 11, 12 or 13, but we advise to go there on foot from the Plaza San Domingo and then following the Gran Vía de San Marcos. On the way you can see the beautiful building that houses the Leon Auditorium, the other modern touch, all white. If you continue on your way, you will arrive at the Parador, and why not push on to the city's river: the Bernesga? The Plaza del Conde hosts the big market every day.
