In the Middle Ages, this city was a busy port, trading wood with the Atlantic, but especially linen from the Baltic. It was this fabric that covered the European markets of that time and made the fortune of the Marquises of Sargadelos. The Pazo Ibañez, a neoclassical building from the end of the 18th century and the home of the first Marquis of Sargadelos, can be admired. Nowadays, this town overlooking the Eo River is quiet, sheltered from the massive tourist flows. There are many buildings of the indiana type, such as the Casa de dos Morenos, from the beginning of the 20th century, and one can appreciate the views over the Eo River.
