Perched at the top of a promontory, the city is a balcony on the ría, facing the Galician side. It is pleasant to wander through its silent alleys, lined with white houses covered with slate and punctuated with pleasant squares and pretty churches. Some old palaces are worth visiting, including the Palacio de Valledor, which dates from the 16th century, and the Palacio del Marqués de Santa Cruz, which overlooks the river. Take a walk along the Paseo de la Mirandilla, on the other side of the port, for a panoramic view of the city and the coast. During the Corpus Christi festivities, the streets where the procession passes are covered with a carpet of flowers.
