A popular saying states, " Unos por agosto y otros por enero, pero todos vuelven por Cudillero," or, "Some in August, some in January, but everyone returns to Cudillero." Cudillero is located on the way to Santiago by the coast. As the small fishing port of 6,000 inhabitants grew, a more modern port was built back from the village. Cudillero still retains the picturesque charm of its houses clinging to a rocky outcrop: a single main street and, all around, an amphitheater of small colorful shacks. There are no streets, but stairs climbing steeply to the last houses.
