Located in the heart of a valley teeming with dolmens and castros, Mondoñedo (4 000 inhabitants) houses a well preserved historical centre, which has been classified as cultural interest. It is organised around the cathedral of Romanesque origin, which faces the charming plaza de España. In this same place, a statue pays tribute to the writer Álvaro Cunqueiro, who is considered one of the greatest authors in Galicia. Behind the cathedral, you can admire the seminary of Santa Catalina, a monumental 25 000 th century building that houses a library of over books.
