Facing the Cantabrian Sea, this municipality of around 1,300 inhabitants offers superb panoramic views of the port, just a few kilometres from the town centre. After passing the Plaza de Muro, you will come across the Palacio de Valdecarnaza, the headquarters of Marshal Ney during the Spanish War of Independence, which pitted France and Spain against each other between 1808 and 1814. The palace, built in the 16th century, still has a beautiful plateresque façade. About two kilometres away, the beach of Aguilar invites you to take a refreshing swim. The municipality is also crossed by the river Nalón, which along its course offers beautiful nature walks.
