Small village of 600 souls in the Malcantone Valley. This valley is famous for its chestnut trees, which the locals used to cultivate in chestnut groves. Mal Cantone" used to mean "bad region", yet there's something very seductive about the hilly, chestnut-fringed landscape. No doubt this honorific notion refers to the iron mines exploited in the past. You can follow the "Sentiero delle meraviglie" to walk in the footsteps of the forges and the "Sentiero del castagno", around Arosio for chestnut production. Curio is best known for its museum, which preserves the heritage of the past.
