70 km from Vienna, at the confluence of the Danube and the river Krems, Krems en der Donau (Krems on the Danube) is the artistic and cultural capital of the Wachau valley. Listed as a World Heritage Site, it is a quiet little town at the foot of the vineyards, known for its apricot brandy factory and its white wines. The town's art museum in a former tobacco factory, the caricature museum and the new Lower Austrian World Heritage and Art Museum of the 19th and 20th centuries are worth a visit. The city is connected to Vienna by train and bus. Easy connection also to Stockerau and Sankt-Pölten.
