Our favorite in the region, Třebič (40,000 inhabitants) has everything to please. A beautifully preserved historic centre, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002, a breathtaking natural environment. Equidistant from Brno, Znojmo and Jihlava, Třebič will certainly become a major tourist centre in the years to come. It was in the 14th century that the town developed, thanks to the influence of its Benedictine abbey, and the most beautiful houses were built. But this prosperous period came to an end in 1468, when the city was completely destroyed during the Czech-Hungarian wars. The immense domain of the abbey passed into the hands of lords who, little by little, rebuilt the town. The centre has recently been restored.
