Buried in the heart of a network of ponds, Třeboň conceals in its centre a charming, colourful and lively square with superbly preserved facades. A charming stopover ideal for enjoying long walks along the ponds or escapades in the vast forest areas. And a great place to go cycling with dozens of possible routes along easy family-friendly tracks. This natural complex has been included in the list of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. Třeboň is said to have been founded in the 12th century on the great trade route to Austria and to have had its heyday under the Rožmberk Mountains between 1366 and 1611. The city is situated on marshy land, the peat bogs, from which mud was collected for a long time to be used, even today, for rheumatic treatments but also for treating locomotor problems and post-operative traumas.
