Beautifully situated on the borders of the Vltava River, the town of Zvíkov is best known for its romantic castle overlooking the valley. The town was already fortified in the 13th century by the Přemyslids and today is a beautiful gateway to South Bohemia. You will only make a short stop here as the tourist infrastructure is modest, but it would be a shame to visit the area without lingering to visit the castle. Be careful, however, as the castle is only open during the season, between April and October, and closes its doors for the winter. You can get there by bus from Písek (about 30 minutes) but buses are rare.
