On the banks of the Danube, this charming medieval town is dominated by the ruins of the famous fortress where King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned for two years on his return from the Third Crusade. In the heart of the village, you will discover the Augustinian abbey and its elegant sky-blue bell tower, one of the emblems of the Wachau. Come at the end of the year to enjoy the sublime decor of the medieval houses and the narrow streets decorated with handcrafted objects. The traditional gingerbread figures, a local delicacy, and Christmas decorations are on display. You should know that this site is very touristy.
