Bacoli, a fishing village and seaside resort, is located at the western end of the Gulf of Pozzuoli. In ancient times, the site (Bauli) was popular with the great Roman families who wanted to enjoy the mild climate. Few traces of this ancient building have survived, however, with the exception of two grandiose hydraulic works: the Piscina Mirabilis and Cento Camerelle.
