Verrès is one of the smallest villages in the Valle d'Aosta, dominated by the imposing boulder-shaped castle on the rock that blocks the access to the Val d'Ayas. In addition to the castle, which attracts most of the visitors, the village has some beautiful medieval churches that are worth seeing. One of these is the Precedence of Saint-Gilles, a complex comprising a monastery and a church built between the 11th and 18th centuries. Every year a historical carnival takes place here with the characters of Pierre d'Introd and Catherine de Challant, the noble family who lived in the castle. You can make a quick stop to visit the castle
