Gressoney-Saint-Jean, located a few kilometers below Gressoney-la-Trinité, is more residential and quiet, while having the same grandiose setting of Mount Rose. Everything is written in German. Marguerite de Savoie, the very popular Queen of Italy between the 19th and 20th centuries, had established her summer quarters here, to enjoy the calm, the cool climate, the exceptional panorama, but also the Germanic culture of its inhabitants, to which she was particularly attached because of her mother, Elisabeth of Saxony. At first she lived in the large villa of Baron Beck-Peccoz, her close friend (some say even more...), today the seat of the Commune of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, after the death of her husband, King Humbert I, she had a neo-Gothic manor house built, known as Château-Savoie or Castel Savoia. The villages of Gaby and Issime, further down the valley, are starting points for many hikes, especially in the Vallon de Niel, its Walser villages and the Pointe des Trois Evêques (2,501 m), or in the Vallon de Valbonaz and Mount Crabun (2,710 m).Gover Lake. A 5-minute walk from the village of Saint-Jean, a small lake offers an incredible view of the Monte Rosa massif, whose year-round snow-capped peaks are reflected in the turquoise waters of the small lake. A green area, ideal for relaxation, is laid out around the lake
